Artist: Nathan Sharratt

Nathan Sharratt visited Malon D. Mimms Boys & Girls Club last February and was struck by the happiness he saw in our kids and teens and the strong supportive community that the Club provides. Meeting with these promising and talented kids and teens served as a reminder for Nathan of the great personal and social loss associated with the Sandy Hook tragedy. This artwork is intended to honor those who were lost at Sandy Hook and highlight Malon D. Mimms Boys & Girls Club as an example of an organization who is working to create inspired, safe and strong communities for children.

Nathan studied Film and Animation at Pratt Institute and received a BFA in Sculpture in 2011 from the Savannah College of Art & Design. His solo exhibition, Come Inside. Me., was curated by Dashboard Co-Op and received several critical awards. He was named an Artist To Watch in 2013 by The Atlantan, is a Hambidge Fellow, a 2012 visiting artist for the Center For Chemical Evolution, and his work is in the permanent collection of the High Museum of Art and other private collections.

Scy’Ann is 12 years old and has been a member of the Malon D. Mimms Club for three years.  Her favorite thing to do at the club is hang out in the gym, laughing and talking with her friends.  She says that the BGCMA has taught her how to control her emotions and take responsibility for what she says to others.  To her, the best part of BGCMA is that they make you feel like family.
